Our 2nd Anniversary!

First, thanks for all the comments on our pillows!  Woo, who knew pillows could be so exciting?

I'm a little behind posting about our second anniversary, but that's OK -- better late than never! I never got around to posting about our first anniversary and it bums me out that I don't have a first anniversary post to go back and re-read.

Last year we decided  we'd follow the anniversary gift suggestions by year.  I had no clue where the list originated when I started writing this post so I checked Wikipedia, only to find the traditional and modern U.S. list of anniversary gifts by year were compiled by librarians at the Chicago Public Library.  (Which I think is pretty cool since we're from the suburbs and will tell people we're from Chicago if we ever live anywhere other than Illinois.  I know, true Chicago residents hate anyone who does that.)

Anyway, it's year two and we're really into the whole theme.  Click here for a list of each year's gift information.  We're following the traditional gifts, which means that last year Tommy and I exchanged paper gifts and this year we exchanged cotton.  For our first anniversary we gave each other paper art from Etsy.  My parents thought they would get in on the tradition and gave us toilet paper, paper towels and a $25 gift card to Barnes n' Noble. That Susan (my mom), too creative for words -- I know.

For our second anniversary, we were a little boring but I guess that's what happens when you've been married for two whole years.  Tommy bought me some much-needed everyday unmentionables from Victoria's Secret and a new pot holder/oven mitt combo from Sur la Table and I bought him a pair of semi-cotton cycling gloves.  Susan bought us the last pair of queen-size sheets available in the history of Target to match our bedding set.  Again, she's so good :)

We exchanged gifts on Jan. 9 but Tommy had class, so we waited until Jan. 10 to go to dinner.  When we did go out we headed to Maggiano's (the site of our yummy wedding reception) because we had a gift card from Tommy's parents.

This is what happens when you have a DSLR camera. Sometimes the photos work ...

... and sometimes they do not.

Another wedding anniversary tradition we've decided to follow is from Pinterest, we're planning to pose with a photo of us from our last anniversary every year, someday holding years and sweet years of anniversaries in our hands.

Note to anyone planning to do this -- next year we'll take out the glass in the frame, as it was hard to find a restaurant employee who could take a photo and know how to snap the shot without a glare on the glass.

So there you have it, another year of marriage to my best friend -- the hard-working comedian with an incredibly big heart, Tommy Ferguson -- here and gone!

Remember when "grown ups" would tell you the years start to fly by as you get "older," they were right.

  1. I love the anniversary picture idea. I think we're too far in to start that, even though we've taken pictures almost every year on our anniversary.
You aren't a grown up yet, still a grown up kid (according to my son).
Oh, more reasons to love your mom!

  3. Congrats! What a difference two whole marriage years makes, huh? Way different from two 'dating' years :-)
